Linux and most Unix systems can read and write to FAT16, FAT32 and NTFS (or easily be made to do so) partitions, and it has been so for years, now. NTFS used to be an issue years back, it no longer is so.

I cannot recall Linux not supporting FAT32, I “only” started using Linux in June 2000, though, yes, that is 10 years ago.
